Our Farm
Brandmoore Farm is a diversified farm in the town of Rollinsford, NH, started in 2012 by Philip and Rebecca Brand. Located along the Salmon Falls River, which marks part of the border between New Hampshire and Maine, we manage 400 acres of rolling pasture, meadows, hay fields, and woodlands. We raise cows, pigs, chickens, and grow 2 acres of organic vegetables.
We operated as an organic dairy for 9 years and recently took a couple of years off to update and renovate our milk room and cheesery. As of Winter 2023, we are proud to offer fresh milk from the farm & yogurt and cheese made in our cheesery for sale from the farm store.
History of the Farm
The area along the the Salmon Falls River (known to the indigenous people as the “Newichawannock,” was inhabited first by the Abenaki people. Home to some of the first colonial settlements in New Hampshire, the area became known as The Sligo, after Sligo, Ireland. Sligo survives as the name of the road along which the farm stretches for the better part of two miles.
The land was purchased by the Aikman family in the early part of the 20th century, who operated the farm as both a beef and dairy farm at different times through the years. To ensure its future as a scenic, agricultural property, the land has been placed in conservation by Robin Aikman through SELT and the 400 acres will remain protected. The land serves as a habitat for waterfowl, deer, coyote, bobcat, and many others as well as for agricultural use.
Philip and Rebecca started Brandmoore Farm in 2012, and leased the farm from Robin Aikman until her passing in 2023. Now, the farm is rented through a trust that is in her name.
Phil was born in New Jersey and lived in upstate NY, Iowa and Peterborough, NH before landing on the Seacoast of NH. Phil is one of 4 brothers and his family is involved on the farm in various ways. Phil studied Economics at UNH and later working in Washington DC before moving back up to NH. Farming has always been an interest and the range of farm jobs has been fulfilling over the past 10 years running Brandmoore Farm. You can find Phil all over the farm; putting up or taking down fencing, caring for the livestock, fixing machinery, haying and keeping things run smoothly. He’s always whistling while he works and loves the farm life. He loves golf, reading, basketball and playing with his kids.
Becky grew up in Rhode Island and from a young age, had an interest in growing food and gardening. Her parents and grandparents always had beautiful backyard gardens filled with fragrant herbs, flowers and there are memories of mom canning grape jam and bread and butter pickles in the August heat. Starting out with gardening for individual clients, Becky quickly realized that growing food was her passion and worked at an organic farm through summer breaks during college. She studied Environmental Horticulture at UNH, apprenticed at Appleton Farms in Ipswich and later worked at local farms on the NH seacoast. Once Phil and Becky met, starting a farm was a goal for them both and Brandmoore Farm hit the ground running.
